DIY bike basket liner

Bike baskets are practical and add that vintage style to your ride. My bike didn't come with a basket, so I bought one at my local bike shop. I decided to brightened the plain wicker with a coat of white spray paint and a DIY basket liner.

I love up-cycling old clothes, and it turns out tank tops are perfect for making bike basket liners.
Cut straight across below the arm pit of a tank top, turn inside out, machine stitch across where you cut to close the end. Then stitch in some elastic around the inside of the opening (which is the bottom of the tank top).

Happy trails!

  16. Oh my gosh. . . I LOVE this project! I have a plain bike basket on my cruiser right now. I love the idea of painting it. Kudos on figuring out that tank tops with slight modification work as basket liners. That's creative genius, my friend!:)

  17. So adorable. I love that you used clothes to make the liner. I also love that the clerk at the bike store was going to use a basket on a small bike for a card receptacle. Brilliant!

  18. I love this!! I've been looking to make a basket liner/ basket bag for my new bike too! This is just the thing! I'm thinking, maybe I can add a drawstring to the top elastic too if I fold it over? So that I can shut it as well. Hmmm...ideas whirring! Thanks for the inspiration! :-)
