fabric flag

American flag crafts don't have to have the exact amount of stars and stripes. You can be creative and use scrap fabrics and repurposed items in your design. My flag is made from an antique letter tray, red and white stripe-fabric remnant, a small piece of denim and some upholstery tacks to fasten the edges!

This antique letter tray had been hanging around our house for years. Letter trays held stamps for printing presses. In the photo below you can see what the letter holding side of the tray looks like. I used the flip side as the base for my flag.

You could also use a piece of wood, an old cabinet door, fence planking, or an old sign as your flag base. Instead of buying hanging hardware, I used two screws and some craft wire.
