Make a DIY American flag for July 4th using fabrics scraps. Flag crafts don't need the exact amount of stars and stripes that USA flags have. You can be creative combining fabric scraps, buttons, upholstery tacks, with picture frames or pieces of wood as your base. My flag base is made from an antique letter tray, along with red and white stripe-fabric remnant, a small piece of denim and some upholstery tacks to fasten the edges!
This antique letter tray had been hanging around our house for years. Letter trays held stamps for printing presses. In the photo below you can see what the letter holding side of the tray looks like. I used the flip side as the base for my flag.
You could also use a piece of wood, an old cabinet door, fence planking, or an old sign as your flag base. Instead of buying hanging hardware, I used two screws and some craft wire. |
SO clever- looks awesome!
